Covid Week 4

14th April 2020
Time moves on and the Media is getting fed up with nothing to report that’s different so what does the media do.  It looks for non-stories and ways to criticise when in fact praise should be the order of the day
Letter to the TIMES
“As usual you bury the important facts and truths.  You headline makes out that the Gov is trying to mislead or not report accurately the number of deaths.  If you listened to the Press Conference each day you would have heard the medical experts explain why the hospital data is reported on – it enables comparisons and ability to see when peaks have been reached.  Any sensible analyst of the data realises that you can’t change the data being used if you want to compare results. At all time the experts and Gov have said that the data for Care Homes is in the public domain but is inaccurate in terms of timings.  Its reporting like this that makes me steer clear of the Media and listen directly to the experts.”
Then the Opposition, since it got a new leader, feels it need to criticise.  Always easy to be in opposition – you can suggest anything knowing you won’t have to implement it.  The statistics don’t make the illness disappear.  No matter how many times you weigh a big it doesn’t make it fatter.  The ONS has proved itself to be a useless quango which keeps a lot of Civil Servants in jobs.  They spend all their time speculating and being opinionated.  They got Brexit wrong in so many ways with unemployment and the economy both going to be affected badly.  Neither happened.  Everything else that comes out of their office is always worst case scenario which the media then picks up and creates pandemonium.   For goodness sake use them to work out the simple things in life not something that nobody knows how it will pan out.  I have yet to hear anyone form the ONS apologies for their inaccurate forecasting of Brexit. Stop trying to get the Gov to apologies for doing what they think is right.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

They’re at it again.  Somebody at the BBC got on the bandwagon of some so called expert who is professing the doom of the economy.  Every phrase they have stated includes the words “could” or “might” or “possibly” or “worst case scenario.”  When will this scaremongers realise that this is not a definite to even putting it out there under the banner of the BBC means that some individuals will take this as fact.  There are a large number of tabloid readers who cannot tell the difference.  Like any other major economy there will be a difficult road ahead but it will bounce back and there will be casualties but moaning about the actions of the Government to preserve as much as we can is not going to solve anything.  Thinking positively will help and preparing to support those who will be most affected is fine but just sitting there as a journalist spouting forth vitriolic comments and undermining actions and plans does not help.  Whoever is in charge has to make decisions based on the facts at the time.  Everyone wants to same conclusion which is to defeat the virus.  Nobody has any other alternative goal.  The plans that have been decided by an elected government are therefore the ones we follow.  I’m not interested in anyone else’s solution.  Let the people who are running the plan look at these other solutions and make a judgement based on all the information they have.
BBC grow up and stick to what the plan is and encourage not try and find fault all the time
18th April 2020
Oh the rot has begun to set in with the media.  They are fed up with good news stories and are now trying to find fault with everything.  Woke up to the TODAY program news this morning to hear every story complaining or trying to find fault with what is being done.  I think journalists are probably the lowest of the low when it comes to people and their aim in life is to always find fault.  Investigative journalism has a role when finding criminals but not when it comes to people trying to do the best job they can.  Its as if they think that politicians and other people are deliberately trying to do the wrong thing.  All that differs is the way people try to solve the same problem.  Their aims are the same so don't try and trip them up with your stupid questions and sarcastic comments (thank goodness John Humphries has gone)
