Idiotic journalists

2nd May 2020

Journalists continue to amaze me in their ignorance and stupidity.  Their confrontational and sarcastic questioning along with their lack of ability to listen to what has already been said shows their inability to do their job.  There idiotic attempts to try and catch people out and get people to say things that the journalists will use to hang them with later.  No wonder we don’t get any useful press conferences.  The experts at the Covid press conference do an excellent job and I don’t know how they retain their patience when answering these so called journalists.  I use the term “so called” because anyone with half a brain knows that a journalist’s role is to provide us with true facts and not get bogged down with their own opinions. They use of subjective views as well as inflammatory language that does nothing to help peoples understanding.  This used to be the issue of the tabloids who I never referred to as newspapers anyway but now this problem is appearing in the broadsheets.  And as for the BBC don’t get me started .....

Covid Week 5

 21st April 2020
Getting into a routine now with the end of the day taken up with the Press Conference.  My letters of complaint to BBC and the Times continue to flow as these establishments shame themselves in the way they ask questions and the questions they ask.  They think their position allows them to be insulting - Hugh Pym talking about the government “It should be ashamed”- how childish. Having worked for the BBC I know how their minds work and shock tactics try to unsettle people so they will say something that can be thrown back at them at a later date as a criticism of what they have done. Thankfully the experts have had media training and therefore rarely fall into the trap.  What it does do is lead to uninteresting interviews because the people don’t trust the media and therefore don’t say anything of much importance.  Not their fault.
Befriending goes from strength to strength with 26 Befrienders looking after 30 Befriendees. Latest role is to deal with prescriptions and collection of medication.  The Social Prescribers are keeping in touch and the Local Area Coordinators continue to work wonders.  How we managed without these people in the past I have no idea.  In fact we didn’t manage that’s the point.  Issues of safety clothing has been explained by experts saying how what they order from abroad is not delivered.  They never know what they are going to get in a delivery. The press continues to try to misinterpret what has been said.  The NHS does a tremendous job but because it is funded publicly the checks and balances take much longer so things get held up.  Maybe we have to look more carefully at how these organisation operate.  My experience working with the NHS has shown the wheel turns far too slowly but that’s the problem with public service industries and I hope people realise that they can have due diligence or expect money to be wasted and have to accept it.  Private industry is much quicker because there is a bottom line - profit - but I'm not suggesting that the NHS should be private, heaven forbid when you look at the USA. I am saying that we should not be so critical about the system and criticise things that in the big picture are not a problem.
Today having a second go to get our tree pollarded.  What a great job Neil does and the entertainment value as we watch him up the try brings a smile to ours and Tony's next door faces.

Coronovirus Week 3

2nd April 2020

Today wasmanic with people being referedd to the Befriending service.  We are so far keeping up wuith demand JUST.  Hopefully going to get some new recruits from "Next Generation" in Hinckley.  Issues of people without access to food which we addressed in record time.  What a great team we have supportingn each other.  Even when one is lost temporarily today the rest pick up the baton. The media as usual was its unhelpful self from Kuennsberg asking "give us a date when all NHS workers will have been tested!!.  What a waste of air time.  Then in the middle of the press conferenc the BBC fades the whole thing out to give us the news.  In other words the BBC interprretation of what they think is bein gsaid.  What a load of idiots!.  I want to hear the experts and make judgments myself not listen to BBC opinions and speculation.  Absolute disgrace!

11 April 2020

From collecting bread from the Coop for distribution to sorting our telephones and central heating the list goes on as to how our Befrienders have been making a difference. Along with the Local Area Coordinators and Social Prescribers the support services have been working flat out.  If only they can sort out the Safety Equipment for the NHS and Social Services then all would be well.  I must admit that the backlash from the NHS about a comment made by the Health Secretary about making sure that people use the safety equipment as instructed is a bit ridiculous.  It was a sensible comment to make as a reminder.  There was no personal criticism levelled in the comment and it was a sensible reminder to make as some organisations are not used to working with this type of equipment.
The Press Conferences have been excellent from the Government – only spoilt by the majority of stupid journalistic questions.  The BBC still cuts off the press conference if it goes past 6pm.  If the journalists didn’t enjoy the sound of their own voices we would get through more questions.  What a set of idiots!   I did find an unedited copy of the full conference on You Tube.  Why can’t the BBC put it on IPlayer or point to You TUBE if that is what is going to happen in the future.  Letters to BBC News get no response or comment.  As usual they are unaccountable to nobody from the general public.
Weather great which is good and bad I suppose as we all have to stay in over the Easter break.  Not missing it really.  Everything is so quiet.
